学生英语书面表达能力的提高，绝非一朝一夕能够达到的。 现将我的做法总结如下：
一、因人施教，规范要求
初二大部分学生没有养成写日记的习惯。 用英语写日记，对他们来说，更是个新鲜事。 万事开头难。 首先，学生有畏难情绪，担心增加学习负担。 针对学生学习基础知识和接受能力的个别差异，我不是要求全体学生一轰而上，而是在各班里挑选6-8名对英语感兴趣而学习成绩又好的学生作为日记写作的示范生，通过对这些学生的超前辅导，强化训练，以点带面逐步扩展，有目的、有计划地推动全班日记写作的广泛开展。教师把自己的目的和意图告诉学生，使他们明确目的，初步掌握用英语写日记的基本方法，鼓励他们树立信心，坚持写作，每天都得写，不管是多还是少，并拿出日记范文，让他们阅读，总结英语日记的格式、正文内容及注意点。
二、及时讲评，互相交流
定时收日记，认真批改。 每本日记都要写上评语(优点、不足之处、注意点)，教师的评语要以鼓励性的语言为主，以表扬学生的写作精神。
教师应及时掌握学生的心理动态，保持学生注意，激发学生的创作热情。 刚写日记时，学生热情高涨，话题也多，但写了一段时间后就会觉得越来越没东西可写。 因此每周都要召开一次日记写作交流会，学生都把自己的日记本带来，互相传阅，比较分析，然后谈体会，达到开拓视野、取长补短的目的。 通过交流会，及时点评，解答疑难，使学生重新树立信心，创写更好的佳作。
三、提高写作水平的三个阶段
针对初中学生英语刚起步的特点，用英语写日记不可能一步到位，而是要遵循由浅入深、由易到难、循序渐进的规律。 我把日记写作分为三个阶段。
(一)初级阶段——多做模仿性写作。
这一阶段主要训练学生以课本文章为主要内容的日记写作，即把课本文章当成练习写作的参照物，让学生有文可依，这样会减少学生的畏难情绪，增加他们成功的信心。 学生通过课本的学习，可以同步对课文进行仿写、改写、缩写、扩写等等，使学生强化记忆课文中的词语和句型，达到提高书面表达能力的目的。
例如，Lesson 11 Book Ⅱ是一篇介绍中秋佳节的短文，一位学生仿写如下：

这两篇习作简单明了，描述完整，学生易于接受，达到了初步练习写的目的。
(二)中级阶段——转入独立性写作
在经过了第一阶段的模仿性写作后，学生对日记写作有了一定的理性认识与实践体会，这时我就向学生提出要扩充词数、增加内容和写作素材，让学生的习作更贴近生活实际，写他们身边最感兴趣的人和事物，提高他们写作的独立性。
一位学生根据自己上学路上所遇到的事情，写了下面这篇日记：

这篇习作情节生动，语言自然，条理清楚，助人为乐的思想品德活现于写作之中。
(三)提高阶段——增强创造性写作
这一阶段要求学生把所学的英语知识与生活实际结合起来，并有效地融汇于英语写作当中。
这个阶段要放宽学生写作时间，由原来的一天一篇改为二、三天一篇，但要求上交的日记质量高、词数够、内容丰富、主题鲜明、情节生动、语法正确。
在阳光灿烂的5月，我组织了全班学生参加一次郊游活动。 一位学生以他的亲身感受写了这篇愉快的郊游日记。

Today I went outing with my classmates and teachers. It was a fine day. In the morning I got up very early and got everything ready for the outing. We went to Jishan by bus.

四、总结提高，全班推广
经过一学期的训练，日记小组的成员已养成了每天写英文日记的习惯。 他们从不会写、怕写到会写、爱写，并且能够写好了。 他们的明显进步激发了班上许多其他学生写作日记的愿望。 学生们一个个跃跃欲试，全班参与日记写作的时机已经成熟。 教师此时因势利导，在班上提出人人参加日记写作小组的要求，并决定由原来的日记写作小组成员担任组长，日记先由组长批改后再交给教师审批。 在初二下学期，全班举行日记写作比赛，评出优秀日记张贴表扬，极大地鼓舞了全班学生学习英语的积极性和主动性。
日记写作不仅提高了学生的书面表达能力，而且培养了学生学习英语、运用英语的兴趣，促进了听、说、读、写能力的全面发展。

写英语日记最重要的就是要正确书写日记的格式，尤其是在考试中，日记的格式相当重要。英语日记的格式与汉语日记的格式大致相同，在每篇日记的第一行写上日期、星期和天气，接下来写内容。日期、星期和天气的书写要注意以下几个方面：
1. 年、月、日都写时，通常以月、日、年为顺序，月份可以缩写，日和年用逗号隔开。例如：December 18, 2003或者Dec. 18, 2003。

2．写好英语日记的要点
1)养成积累词语的习惯
从某种意义上说，写英语日记又是最难的写作，因为它包罗万象，涉及到生活的各个方面，对词汇的要求特别高。因此，在日常学习中，必须做一个“有心人”，准备一本笔记本，对一些英语的习惯表达法及时记录下来，以便在以后记日记的时候可以使用。在开始记日记时，碰到一两个英语词汇不会写，不妨用汉语先写上，以后学会了英语表达，再补上去。千万不要因为一两个词写不出，就没了记英语日记的兴趣，以至放弃用英语记日记。只要你注意积累，一定会发觉自己英语日记中夹杂的汉语会越来越少，最后变为全部地道的英语日记。
2)英语日记的写作格式
日记的第一行，要写明年、月、日与星期，然后要写明当天的气候状况，如果是游记，还要写明地点。这一部分中天气状况比较难写。下面是一些常用的描写天气的英语词语：

日记正文可以是叙事、描述、说明、议论等各种形式。其实，由于日记是非常随便的，因此上述文体常常结合在一起使用。日记内容取自生活，可长可短，有时无事可记，一两句也可以。切忌今天记，明天不记，三天打鱼，两天晒网，破坏了记日记的情趣。另外，日记也应该尽可能讲究一些文采，切忌写成流水账。
3)英语日记中的缩写与省略
英语日记中的第一行的月份与星期通常都是缩写的：

实际上，省与不省I，只是作者的一种习惯，为了记日记的方便。
最后需要一提的是，英语日记习惯一年一本，因此日期不必写年份，而只是在每年一本的日记本封面上或者在日记的第一页和最后一页加以注明即可。

At nine in the morning, I went to the countryside with my classmates. On the way we saw many rice fields and woods on both sides of the road. Farmers have built factories, shops and schools in many villages. Between ten and twelve we visited ten families. Many farmers who grew vegetables and raised silkworms became rich. Some families have bought color TV. Their life is much better than before. It’s said that some American friends would come to visit their village, too. I hope the farmers’ life will be better and better.
My holiday life will be busy but interesting.
