譯文中國人為什麼要過外國節日？中國傳統節日氣氛驟減，淡然無味；相比之下外國節日在中國可謂日益盛行，蒸蒸日上。這已經成為了一個不爭的事實！傳統節日如重陽、七夕、端午等都不見有多熱烈的節日氣氛，就連春節時候城市也都禁止燃放煙花爆竹，當然也是為了安全著想，但另一方面減淡了春節放放爆竹熱熱鬧鬧的氣氛！在此不多說，相信每個人都有體會。說起外國節日（以聖誕節為例），眼下二十來歲的年輕人，比如像我們廣外學生一樣的大學生們都能如數家珍的說出平安夜、聖誕夜、狂歡夜，知道聖誕紀念的是耶穌的誕辰，知道有聖誕老人，知道應該弄棵樹，掛上漂亮的彩燈、禮品包，知道那隻襪子。在每年的最後一個星期，許多的年輕人三五成群結伴到酒店、酒吧甚至教堂參加聖誕慶祝活動，甚至不少年輕的父母帶著年幼的孩子也參與其間，體驗異域文化帶來的不同概念的享樂，也算是一種樂趣。
一方面，現在中國經濟發展了，人們錢包漸漸鼓了起來，國外物質的和精神的產品流入中國，極大的豐富了中國人民的各種需要。享受外國商品的好處的同時它們也漸漸改變著我們這個民族，本民族的文化傳統漸漸流失，取而代之的是從國外引進的所謂新鮮事物。接觸外部世界本身沒錯，錯誤的是接觸外部世界時分不清「何去何留」。另一方面，市場經濟條件下的商家為了追求利潤最大化，在五一、十一黃金周以及春節、元宵等傳統節日的大蛋糕幾乎被瓜分完的情況下瞄向這種新興的、未被徹底瓜分的利益增長點，即外國節日，於是不斷炒做，造成每到情人節、聖誕節與此有關的廣告隨處可見的現象。同樣這點也有好的方面，那就是可以擴大內需，提高消費，拉動經濟增長。但同樣具有負面效應，加速傳統文化流失。「深層次的研究一下，外國節日火爆的緣由還有這么幾點：一、中國人嚴重缺乏信仰。伊斯蘭教徒就絕無可能慶賀聖誕，佛教徒也不會參與，只有沒有信仰的人，才會去慶祝無關教派的節日。二、貪大崇洋的心理在中國作祟。聖誕幾乎遍布世界，此謂大；聖誕是歐美流行的，此謂洋。第三、中國人背離傳統的現象嚴重。春節逐漸被淡化，而端午、中秋等傳統節日更不值一提。」 以上三點本人非常贊同！
可見，有各種各樣的前因促成外國節日在中國大行其道，這主要是指基督教的節日。但實際上，任何基督徒的節日，跟大多數中國人無關，雖然有小部分基督徒，但整體來說我們這個民族沒有信仰基督教的歷史傳統。政治經濟全球一體化的同時，也造成了優勢文化的全球蔓延，不同層次地影響著全球各個角落。有種說法，聖誕已經不是宗教節日，而是不分民族不分國家的全世界的節日。這種說法，恐怕也只有基督徒和受基督教影響較深的人才會認同，穆斯林就堅決反對並駁斥了這種論調。在中國，即便是熱衷於聖誕游樂的人群，也未必認為聖誕不是宗教性節日。所以說文化的東西不同於政治、經濟，而保持本民族的特色重在保持其文化傳統，外國的東西可以借鑒吸收，但前提是保持本身質的不改變，而非「此消彼長」，取而代之！
