原文
It is well known that man is much cleverer than any animal. But which is the cleverest among the animals? Some scientists think it should be Alex, an African gray parrot. He is unlike any other animal. He can really talk with people! When he says "come here" , he really wants someone to come up to him.
"Alex is as clever a child of 2 or 3 years old," says Dr. Pepperberg."He does not just repeat the sound he has been taught. He understands the words!" Alex can tell about 50 different things, name 7 colours and count from 1 to 6.
Is the parrot actually thinking in the way man does? Nobody can say.But the question is very interesting.

All plant cells are capable of taking up water. Even dead ones do to a certain degree. Absorption of water by dead cell walls makes wood become larger. In common land plants, the living cells of roots take up most of the water. Land plants without roots do exist, however. Those greenish-yellow lichens(苔蘚)you seen on rocks in the high mountains have no roots. Half a billion years ago, when water plants started to enter the land, the first land plants did not have roots.
Even among the flowering plants, one finds rootless forms. These flowering plants are "the higher plants" because they evolved(進化) recently and are thus considered higher on the evolutionary scale(進化樹). In the Peruvian desert, there grows one of these rootless higher plants, a bromeliad. It is a relative of the pineapple. Even if this plant had roots, they would be of no use, because the place where the plant grows never rains. The plant gets its water only from the dew(露水)it collects at night, when its leaves cool off. Such rootless plants, of course, can be moved with ease, but they will only grow when they are placed out in the open. If they are placed too near a house, the radiation from the heat of the house prevents the leaves from cooling and prevents dew from forming, then the plant dies. In the southern United States and in Puerto Rico, one sees bromeliads growing high above the streets on the insulation(絕緣物)of electric wires. These plants get their water from rain, and the only soil they ever come in contact with is the st that may blow on their leaves.

1. Wood becomes larger because of _____.
A. dead cell walls B. water entering dead cells
C. the growth of cells D. the death of cells

2. From the passage we know that the evolutionary scale is graded according to _______.
A. evolutionary cycles B. heights and depths C. time D. kinds

3. The most suitable title for this passage is "__________".
A. Absorption of water by plants B. Rootless plants
C. Plants in the desert D. Higher plants

4. All plant cells are capable of ______.

5. These flowering plants are ______ because they evolved recently and are thus considered higher on the evolutionary scale.

④ 求一篇關於環境保護的高一英語閱讀理解

A desert is a beautiful land of silence and space. The sun shines, the wind blows, and time and space seem endless. Nothing is soft. The sand and rocks are hard, and many of the plants even have hard needles instead of leaves. The size and location(分布) of the world』s deserts are always changing. Over millions of years, as climates change and mountains rise, new dry and wet areas develop. But within the last 100 yeas, deserts have been growing at a frightening speed. This is partly because of natural changes, but the greatest makers are humans.Humans can make deserts, but humans can also prevent their growth. Algeria Mauritania is planting a similar wall around Nouakchott, the capital. Iran puts a thin covering of petroleum(石油) on sandy areas and plants trees. The oil keeps the water and small trees in the land, and men on motorcycles(摩托車) keep the sheep and goats away. The USSR and India are building long canals to bring water to desert areas.

1. In this passage, 「needles」 refers to ___.
A. small, thin pieces of steel. B. long, thinieces of branches.
C. small pointed growth on the stem(莖) of a plant. D. small, thin pieces of sticks.

2. Which of the following is NOT true?
A. The greatest desert makers are humans. B. There aren』t any living things in the deserts.
C. Deserts have been growing quickly. D. The size of the deserts is always changing.

3. People in some countries are fighting a battle against __.
A. the growth of deserts B. the disappearance of desert plants
C. natural changes D. congenital climate

4. We can guess that Mauritania and Algeria belong to __.
A. Asian countries B. American countries

C. European counties D. African countries

【答案與解析】文章主要講的是人們正採取措施控制和治理沙漠。

1. C。詞彙猜測題。從instead of leaves可知needles是沙漠中植物的葉子,眾所周知沙漠中植物的葉子是針狀的, 再看steel(鋼) 、) branches(樹枝) 、stick(棒) 都不是與葉對應的物體, 只有C項(長在植物莖上的尖的小物體)是「是針狀葉」的意思,故答案選C。

2. B。細節題。從many of the plants even have hard needles instead of leaves可知B項錯誤。

3. A。細節題。從Humans can make deserts, but humans can also prevent their growth(認為可能造成沙漠,但人類也可以防止沙漠的增長)可知答案A正確。

4. D。推斷題。根據常識非洲沙漠遠近聞名, 這說明那裡最需要治理, 作者舉例也會舉典型的, 增加文章的可信度,故答案選D。

篇一:空氣污染 Air Pollution

In the past few decades, our Earth has changed a lot, but to the bad direction. Among these changes, the air pollutions resulting from a huge number of automobiles and coal-burning is almost the severest. The severe air pollution alarms humans of the heavy load we have exerted on Earth by our insatiable proction and usage of automobiles. However, with the deepening of urbanization, more cars are needed, which will make the air pollution worse. Therefore, the following actions should be taken. First, we should apply the most cutting-edge technologies in order to adopt new forms of energy as substitutes for fossil fuels. Second, try hard to develop possible transportation means, which are enviromental friendly. So that the citizens can rece the dependence on cars. In short, our humans should take responsibilities for the air pollution and have to find ways to solve this problem.

Car and Pollution

In general, there are two ways of traveling, private cars and public transportation. Chinese people should regard public transportation as their first traveling opinion.
一般來說,有兩種旅遊方式,私家車和公共交通工具。中國人應該把公共交通工具作為旅遊的第一選擇。
First, there are so many people living in this countries that make it so crowded. If each chinese people own a car, there will be far more traffic jams and accidents, which increase you impatience.
首先,這個國家住著很多人,使得它非常擁擠。如果每個中國人都擁有一輛私家車,將會有更多的交通堵塞和事故,這會讓你變得更加的不耐煩。
Moreover, there will be far more pollution resulted from cars. Once a car started, it release huge amount of dirty gas and heat, which lead to great pollution and result in green house effect.
再者,由於私家車將會有更多的污染。一旦汽車起動,它釋放大量的臟氣和熱量,這會導致很大的污染和溫室效應。
All in all, Chinese people should take public transpotation into consideration first。
總之,中國人應該以公共交通工具為第一選擇。

篇三:關於空氣污染的英語作文

Once man did not have to think about the protection of his environment. There were few people on the earth, and natural resources seemed to be unlimited.
Today things are different. The world has become too crowded. We are using up our natural resources, and polluting our environment with dangerous chemicals. If we continue to do this, human life on earth will not survive.
We realize that if too many fish are taken from the sea, there will soon be none left. Yet,with modern fishing methods, more and more fish are caught. We know that if too many trees are cut down, forests will disappear. Yet, we continue to use powerful machines to cut down more and more trees. We see that if rivers are polluted with waste procts, we will die. Yet, waste procts arestill put into rivers.
We know that if the population continues to rise at the present rate, in a few years, there won't be enough food. What can we do to solve these problems?
If we eat more vegetables and less meat, there will be more food available. Land for crops feeds five times more people than land where animals are kept.
Our natural resources will last longer if we learn to recycie them.
The world population will not rise so quickly if people use modern methods of birth control.
Finally, if we ecate people to think about the problems we shall have a better and cleaner planet in the future.

(一)A friend of mine was fond of drawing horse. He drew the horses very well, but he always began the tail. Now it is the Western rule to begin at the head of the horse, that is why I was surprised. It struck me that it could not really make any difference whether the artist begins at the head or the tail or the belly(肚子) or the foot of the horse, if he really knows his business. And most great artists who really know their business do not follow other people』s rule. They make their own rules. Every one of them does his work in a way peculiar(奇特的) to himself; and the peculiarity means only that he finds it more easy
to work in that way.
Now the very same thing is true to literature(文學). And the question, "How shall I begin?" only means that you want to begin at the head instead of beginning at the tail or somewhere else. That is, you are not yet experienced(有經驗的) enough to trust to your own powers. When you become more experienced you will
never ask the question, and I think that you will often begin at the tail --that is to say, you will write the end of the story before you have even thought of the beginning.
1. A friend of the writer』s drew the horses ____.
A. very well
B. in the way of western rule
C. in the way of his own rule
D. all of the above
2. The writer was surprised because ____.
A. the artist began to draw at the head of the horse
B. the artist began to draw at the tail of the horse
C. the artist made his own rule
D. the artist did not follow other people』s rule
3. You are not yet experienced because ____.
A. you don』t know where to begin
B. you want to begin at the head instead of beginning at the tail
C. you always asked question
D. you do not trust to your own powers
4. When you become more experienced you will ____.
A. never ask question
B. often begin at the tail
C. should write the end of the story
D. should think of the beginning
5. The topic of the passage is ______.
A. How to draw a horse
B. How to write a story
C. How to make your own rules
D. Trust to your own powers
答案:CDDCD

(二)When you are learning English, you find it not clever to put an English sentence, word for word, into your own language. Take the sentence 「How do you do?」 as an example. If you look up each word in the dictionary, one at a time, what is your translation? It must be a wrong sentence I your own language.
Language do not just have different sounds, they are different in many ways. It』s important to master(掌握) the rules(規則) for word order in the study of English, too. If the sentences put words in a wrong order, the listeners can』t understand the speakers』 sentences easily. Sometimes when the order is changed, the meaning of the sentence doesn』t change. Let』s see the difference between the two pairs of sentences.
「She only likes apples.」 「Only she likes apples.」
「I』ve seen the film already.」 「I have already seen the film.」
When you are learning English, you must do your best to get the spirit(精神實際) of the language and use it as the English speakers do.
( )1. From the passage we know that when we are learning English.
A. we shouln』t put every word into our own language B. we shouldn』t look up every word in the dictionary
C. we need to put every word into our own language D. we must read word by word
( )2. The writer thinks it is in learning English.
A. difficult to understand different sounds B. possible to remember the word order
C. important to master the rules in different way D. easy to master the rules for word order
( )3. We can learn from the passage that .
A. the meaning of an English sentence always changes with the order of the words
B. the order of words can never change the meaning of an English sentence
C. sometimes different order of words has a different meaning
D. if the order of words is different, the meaning of the sentence must be different
( )4. 「She only likes apples,」
A. is the same as 「Only she likes apple」. B. is different from 「Only she likes apple」.
C. means 「She likes fruit except apples」. D. means 「She doesn』t like apples」.
( )5. Which is the best title for this passage?
A. Different Orders, Different Meanings B. How to speak English?
C. How to Put English into Our Own Language? D. How to Learn English?

⑦ 初中英語閱讀理解試題(含答案和解釋)

My summer hols wr CWOT. B4, we usd 2 go 2 NY 2C my bro, his CF & thr 3:-@ kids FTF ILNY, its gr8.
Can you understand this sentence? If you can't, don't feel too bad: neither could the middle school teacher in England who received this as homework. This is Netspeak: the language of computerized communication found on Internet or cellphones. To newcomers, it can look like a completely foreign language. So, what is the "translation" of the sentence above? My summer holidays were a complete waste of time. Before, we used to go to New York to see my brother, his girlfriend, and their three screaming kids face to face. I love New York; it's great.
Schoolteachers and parents say this new form of writing is harming(破壞)the English language. Increasing spelling and grammatical mistakes cxan be seen in students' writing. They fear the language could become corrupted(面目全非的).
Everyone should just relax, say linguists(語言學家). They believe Netspeak is in fact more of a good thing. David Crystal, from the University of Wales, argues that Netspeak and Internet create a new language use and the almost lost art of diary writing has been picked up again. Geoffrey Nunberg, from Stanford University, agrees. "People get better at writing by writing," he says, "Kids who are now doing text messaging, e-mail, and instant messages will write at least as well as, and possibly better than, their parents."
Linguist James Millroy says, for centuries, it is believed without exception that young people are harming the language. And you can bet your bottom dollar that when today's teenagers become tomorrow's parents, they too will think this way. Milroy argues that languages do not and cannot become "corrupted"; they simply change to meet the new needs.
However, Netspeakers do agree that it is important to teach young people how to speak and write Standard English. Cynthia McVey says, "I can understand Netspeak worries teachers and it's important that they get across to their pupils that text messaging is for fun, but that learning to write proper English is a must for their future."
Perhaps we should give teenagers a little more trust anyway. Erin, age 12, says, "I wouldn't use text language in my homework. Texting is just for fun"
1. What is the main purpose of the first paragraph?
A. To give an example of a foreign language.
B. To show an example of creative methods.
C. To express worries about using Netspeak.
D. To lead in the topic of Netspeak.
答案:D
【解析】在審題過程中請大家主語是main purpose而不是main idea ,第一段就一句話,而且是讓人咋看起開一頭霧水的句子,這樣的句子用在開頭,很明顯是為了引出下文。或者大家可以運用排除法文章主要對象是netspeak ,而A,B兩項沒有提到netspeak 故排除,又因為C選項在感情色彩上是負面,與原文感情色彩相違背,故答案選擇D。
2. Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A. Cynthia McVey points out teenagers can deal with Netspeak properly.
B. Geoffrey Nunberg believes Netspeakers can write Standard English.
C. David Crystal thinks Netspeak helps develop the habit of writing.
D. James Milroy says that language is changing and improving.
3. The expression "bet your bottom dollar" in Paragraph 5 means ______.
A. be fairly sure B. be greatly surprised
C. think it a pity D. find it interesting
答案:A
【解析】本題為短語推斷題,解題方法結合上下文邏輯關系,上文提到年輕人會harming 語言,下文接著說當他們成為父母後,they too will think this way .他們也會這么想,那麼中間空出一定是強調,並凸顯出下文,那麼最滿足條件的解釋是A選項。
4. What can be the best title for the passage?
A. Netspeak: A Widely-Used Language on Internet
B. Is Netspeak Harming the English Language?
C. Is Netspeak Helpful in Language Learning?
D. Netspeak: Advantages and Disadvantages
答案:B
【解析】本題為主旨大意題,結合專家的觀點,既引號中的句子我們可以斷定,全文的中心思想是為了凸顯出netspeak的好,A 選項文章沒有凸顯出widely -used C 選項沒有重點提及到language learning D文章觀點很鮮明,並不是正反觀點的論證,故答案選擇B。
