怎樣提高英文文獻的閱讀能力
已經快開題了，我下載了一些英文的文獻來閱讀，然而發現自己閱讀英文文獻的能力實在太差：一篇中文的文獻，我一般花半小時讀完，而一篇同樣長度或略長一些的英文文獻，卻要花四五個小時才能看完一遍，而且看到後面就忘記了前面，感覺真是寸步難行！顯然，英文文獻閱讀能力的不足已經成為一個我不得不重視和必須解決的問題了。同時我想，這也許是許多科研的新手都會遇到的一個問題。那麼這個問題的原因是什麼？有什麼解決辦法呢？經過分析，我總結出了一些方法來提高自己的英文文獻閱讀水平。
首先，是缺乏相關的知識。如果中文的文獻都難以看懂，那英文文獻難以看懂就不足為怪了。事實上，有許多的文獻即使翻譯成中文，我想自己也是難以看懂的，因為有許多的知識、名詞我不理解。例如，如果不知道火箭電泳的原理，又怎能看懂包含這個方法的段落呢？所以，基礎知識的問題，是引起閱讀難的首要問題，而解決的方法自然是學習好相關的知識。
其次，是有很多的詞彙不認識。不認識單詞，自然無法理解。不過這個倒是比較好解決的一個問題，因為同一課題常見的詞彙就那麼多，看多了自然就熟悉了。對於這個問題，解決的方法也簡單，就是記住常用的詞彙，多看文獻，自然就認識了。對於醫學方面的論文而言，有一個非常有用的軟體《新編全醫葯學大辭典》，收詞量巨大，好像是30萬以上吧！而且有多種功能，可以在PDF文檔取詞，可以建立生詞本以方便復習等等，幾乎所有的醫學詞彙都可以查到。
此外，醫學論文（其他的科技論文應該也是如此）有一個特點就是長句和難句很多。常常是一個句子長達三四十個單詞或更多，讀完一句往往不知所雲。閱讀這樣的論文，其痛苦是不言而喻的。我閱讀中國人或日本人的英文文章時發現很好閱讀，而有些英美國家的作者寫的文章就要難很多，原因就是中國和日本的作者寫的句子短一些、簡單一些。這個問題解決的方法就是要增強自己閱讀長難句的能力。方法一是推薦新東方楊鵬的《GRE&GMAT閱讀難句教程》，該書的核心思想就是：長難句難以理解的原因是平時閱讀的太少、不熟悉，而反復地閱讀長難句，自然孰能生巧，下次在遇到這樣的句子就容易理解了。他總結了GRE考試和GMAT考試中各100多個長難句，並表示只要讀者反復閱讀到覺得每一個句子都非常自然的時候，閱讀能力就會大為長進。而我試用該方法，覺得確實非常有效而且簡單易行。在花了三四天時間看完GRE的長難句一遍以後，我再去閱讀以前覺得難以看懂的論文，發現簡單許多！當時真的很高興，因為還沒有達到他所說的要求就有如此明顯的效果了。方法二是從難以看懂的論文中找出一些特別難的句子或段落（有些像楊鵬的方法）然後反復的看，直到沒有任何障礙。三是找一些有代表性的難以看懂的論文反復的閱讀，直到速度提高到與看中文文章相同為止。
有時並不需要詳細的閱讀全文，這時速讀、跳讀的能力就很重要了。由於平時極少進行這方面的練習，大部分人不習慣於這種閱讀方式。所以，為了提高閱讀速度，還應該進行相應的訓練。方法一是快速的閱讀重要內容，如標題，摘要，小標題等比較大寫的地方。二是在文章中尋找特定的信息，如找一個特定的詞彙、一個人名、地名，或某種方法等。三是進行速讀的練習，可以參考速讀方面的書籍或楊鵬的那一本書。其實也比較簡單，就是我們平時一次只看一個單詞，而現在一次看幾個單詞甚至一個句子，這樣速度自然加快了。
其實英文文獻的閱讀能力說到底還是熟能生巧的問題，看的多了自然速度會快起來。雖然上面歸納了許多方法，然而如果沒有大量的閱讀做基礎，這些方法也不會起到很好的效果。所以，接下來我要做的就是大量的閱讀和練習！
