『壹』 急求一份有关英国的英文资料

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, commonly known as the United Kingdom, the UK, or Britain,[3] is a sovereign island country[4][5] located off the northwestern coast of mainland Europe. The UK includes the island of Great Britain, the northeast part of the island of Ireland and many small islands. Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK with a land border, sharing it with the Republic of Ireland.[6] Apart from this land border, the UK is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea, the English Channel and the Irish Sea. The largest island, Great Britain, is linked to France by the Channel Tunnel.

The United Kingdom is a union[7][8] of four constituent countries: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The United Kingdom is governed by a Parliamentary System with its seat of government in London, the capital, and a constitutional monarchy with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as the head of state. The Crown Dependencies of the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, formally possessions of the Crown, are not part of the UK but form a federacy with it.[9] The UK has fourteen overseas territories,[10] all remnants of the British Empire, which at its height encompassed almost a quarter of the world's land surface, making it the largest empire in history. As a direct result of the empire, British influence can be observed in the language and culture of states such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, South Africa, Singapore, Sri Lanka and the United States of America, and other less globally influential independent states. HM Queen Elizabeth II remains the head of the Commonwealth of Nations and head of state of each of the Commonwealth realms.

The UK is a developed country, with the fifth (nominal GDP) or sixth (PPP) largest economy in the world. It was the world's foremost power ring the 19th and early 20th century,[11] but the economic cost of two world wars and the decline of its empire in the latter half of the 20th century diminished its leading role in global affairs. The UK nevertheless retains strong economic, cultural, military and political influence and is a nuclear power, with the second or third (depending on method of calculation) highest defence spending in the world. It is a member state of the European Union, holds a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, and is a member of the G8, NATO, WTO and the Commonwealth of Nations.

『贰』 关于英国的英语资料,并加上翻译

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland[note 5] (commonly known as the United Kingdom, the UK or Britain) is a sovereign state located off the north-western coast of continental Europe. The country includes the island of Great Britain, the north-eastern part of the island of Ireland and many smaller islands. Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK that shares a land border with another sovereign state—the Republic of Ireland. Apart from this land border the UK is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea, the English Channel and the Irish Sea.
The United Kingdom is a unitary state governed under a constitutional monarchy and a parliamentary system, with its seat of government in the capital city of London. It is a country in its own right[10][11] and consists of four countries: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.[12] There are three devolved national administrations, each with varying powers,[13][14] situated in Belfast, Cardiff and Edinburgh; the capitals of Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland respectively. Associated with the UK, but not constitutionally part of it, are three Crown Dependencies.[15] The United Kingdom has fourteen overseas territories.[16] These are remnants of the British Empire which, at its height in 1922, encompassed almost a quarter of the world's land surface and was the largest empire in history. British influence can still be observed in the language, culture and legal systems of many of its former territories.
The UK is a developed country and has the world's sixth-largest economy by nominal GDP and seventh-largest economy by purchasing power parity. It was the world's first instrialised country[17] and the world's foremost power ring the 19th and early 20th centuries.[18] The UK remains a great power with leading economic, cultural, military, scientific and political influence.[19] It is a recognised nuclear weapons state and its military expenditure ranks third or fourth in the world.[20] The UK has been a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council since its first session in 1946; it is also a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, the Council of Europe, the European Union, the G7, the G8, the G20, NATO, the OECD and the World Trade Organization.

『陆』 用英语介绍一下英国索福大学

The academic heritage of the University of Salford is founded in the great instrial revolution which originated in the North of England and transformed the world ring the Nineteenth Century. Salford contributed to this extraordinary transformation through its internationally renowned engineering and engineers, science and scientists, technologies and technologists.

The university was founded in 1896 as the Royal Technical Institute, Salford following a merger of the Salford Working Men's College founded in 1858 and Pendleton Mechanics Institute founded in 1850. The Institute received royal letters, allowing the word 'Royal' to be appended, with the then Duke and Duchess of York (later to become King George V and Queen Mary) officiating at the opening ceremony.

The Statues of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, situated on the lawn in front of the Art Gallery, commemorate their royal visit to Salford in 1851. Joule House in Acton Square was the home of James Prescott Joule who gave his name to the electrical unit of work.

In 1921, the Institute was renamed the Royal Technical College, Salford, but in 1958 the institution split into two separate organisations. The break away college became the Peel Park Technical College but changed its name first to Salford Technical Institute in 1961, then to Salford College of Technology in 1970, and finally to University College Salford in 1992.

The Royal College of Advanced Technology, went on to become the University of Salford on 10 February 1967 when Her Majesty The Queen handed over the Royal Charter. In 1996, the break-away University College Salford (est.1958) and the University of Salford (est.1967) were formally merged into the single institution that makes the university what it is today.

The first Vice-Chancellor was Clifford Whitworth, after whom the university's main library is named. The first chancellor was HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who remained as the university's chancellor until 1991. Prince Philip took a "keen interest" in the university whilst in office which has continued since then, with him making a visit in 2008 to see the university's award winning acoustics laboratories.

Today, the University has established a successful global presence with a 2006/7 turnover of some £156m, four faculties, 12 schools, nearly 21,000 students, and 2,500 staff - serving the needs of instry and commerce.

Currently undergoing a transformational change affecting every area of university life, Salford is positioning itself at the leading edge of higher ecation institutions in this country.

『玖』 求英国top5大学的英文简介

1.剑桥
The University of Cambridge is rich in history - its famous Colleges and University buildings attract visitors from all over the world. But the University's museums and collections also hold many treasures which give an exciting insight into some of the scholarly activities, both past and present, of the University's academics and students.

The University of Cambridge is one of the oldest universities in the world and one of the largest in the United Kingdom. Its reputation for outstanding academic achievement is known world-wide and reflects the intellectual achievement of its students, as well as the world-class original research carried out by the staff of the University and the Colleges.

2.伦敦帝国理工学院
Imperial College was founded in 1907 from the Royal College of Science, the Royal School of Mines and the City and Guilds College. The three combined expertise in pure science, engineering, mining and related topics such as geology. More recently, a merger with Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School created the Imperial College School of Medicine, the largest medical school in the country.

Imperial College's main strengths are maths, engineering, science, technology and medicine. It also boasts a £1.4m interactive TV system that enables medical students to attend lectures and watch demonstrations without travelling across the capital.

The university also has a large agricultural sciences department, based in Kent. The Wye campus is set in a 350-hectare estate in the heart of the countryside, close to the small town of Wye, which has shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants.

3.伦敦政治经济学院
One of the UK's more high-powered academic institutions, the London School of Economics is hard to get into and enjoys an international reputation. The Webbs founded it in 1895 to promote "the study and advancement of Economics or Political Economy, Political Science or Political Philosophy, Statistics, Sociology, History, Geography, and any subject cognate to any of these", thanks to the will of a rich Fabian, Henry Hunt Hutchinson. Its social purposes were based on those of American and continental schools and universities where political, social and economic problems were seen as ripe for study.

The LSE's courses still reflect its origins: among those that enjoy a particularly good reputation are accounting and finance, law, economics and international relations. It is a breeding ground for politicians, and has arguably done more to shape the political world than any other university: as well as countless MPs, LSE has ecated world leaders including John F Kennedy.

4.圣安德鲁斯大学
Founded in 1411, St Andrews is Scotland's oldest university, and, in the whole of Britain, is only younger than Oxford and Cambridge. The 6,000 students at history-rich St Andrews make up one-third of the population of this small city, 45 miles from Edinburgh. St Andrews is also famous as the home of golf.

Given its august history, St Andrews' excellent academic reputation is probably no surprise. It is best known for its humanities courses - English, philosophy, modern languages and history of art all do well - and is also strong in sciences. St Andrews hosts the largest optical telescope in Britain and a £4m extension to the Gatty Marine Lab will research seals, whales and dolphins.

With something like 40% of students coming from independent schools, and a similar proportion from England, St Andrews has a bit of a toffy reputation, although fee concessions for Scots students may affect the balance in the future. The fact that Dundee took all the vocational courses when it split from the university in the 1960s does not make it any harder for St Andrews' graates to find careers.
