二十世紀之初，China一詞起源問題，學界曾經討論，眾說紛紜，未定一是。文僧蘇曼殊(1884-1918)通英、法、日、梵諸文，曾撰有《梵文典》。他認為China起源於古梵文「支那」，初作Cina，用來指中華。他研讀三千年前的古印度史詩《摩訶婆羅多》和《羅摩衍那》，發現支那一詞最早見於這兩部著作，其原義為「智巧」。他認為，這是三千四百年前印度婆羅多王朝時人對黃河流域商朝所治國度的美稱。「智巧」與慧苑所說之「思維」內涵略有不同，想系詞義因時代而演變所致。

The second half witnessed the dismantling of the Empire and the UK rebuilding itself into a modern and prosperous European nation. As one of five permanent members of the UN Security Council, a founding member of NATO, and of the Commonwealth, the UK pursues a global approach to foreign policy; it currently is weighing the degree of its integration with continental Europe. A member of the EU, it chose to remain outside the Economic and Monetary Union for the time being. Constitutional reform is also a significant issue in the UK. The Scottish Parliament, the National Assembly for Wales, and the Northern Ireland Assembly were established in 1999, but the latter is suspended e to wrangling over the peace process.
Culture in the United Kingdom is rich and diverse, with a strong tradition of literature, theatre, popular and orchestral music and the performing arts. These, together with collections in UK museums and galleries, act as a magnet for overseas visitors and make a substantial contribution to the economy.
London is the capital of the UK,which looks unplanned and grubby, but that is part of its appeal,unlike comparable European cities. Visiting London is like being let loose on a giant-sized Monopoly board clogged with traffic. Even though you probably won't know where the hell you are, at least the names will look reassuringly familiar. The city is so enormous, visitors will need to make maximum use of the underground train system: unfortunately, this dislocates the city's geography and makes it hard to get your bearings.
London is a year-round tourist center, with few of its attractions closing or significantly recing their opening hours in winter. Your best chance of good weather is in July and August, but that is when you can expect the biggest crowds and highest prices.
The United Kingdom is a fertile country , because it is well-watered, low-lying, temperate climate, and supports a large population, but has only a small land area and is therefore densely populated.
And it is very convient to go to other Europine countries by highway,railway,ships and flight,for example,it only needs 3 hours from London to Paris by the Tunnel.

Spring festival is the most important festival in China. It is on January 1st according to the Chinese lunar calendar. It's China's New year's Day, so usually a month before the festival,people begin to buy food ,clothes and decorations for houses.
On New Year's Eve ,each family will get together eating, talking and watching TV for almost the whole night. The children are the happiest of all because they can get presents from their parents or grand-parents.
On Lunar New Year's Day, pepole will eat mplings. When they meet their neighbours or friends, they'll say;"Happy New Year!''The New Year celebrating activitise will last about half a month.
