一、跳過空格,了解大意。
解題時先跳過空格,通讀完形填空的短文,了解全專篇的內容和要旨。要重視首句,善屬於以首句的時態、語氣為立足點,理清文脈,推測全文主題及大意。
二、復讀短文,判斷詞形。
把握短文大意後再認真復讀短文,利用上下文的語境,結合所學過的知識,先確定空格處所需詞語的意義,再根據空格在句子中的位置,判斷其在句中充當的成分,從而確定所填詞的詞性,再依據詞語搭配和語法規則,判斷所填的詞的正確形式。
三、三讀短文,驗證答案。
在短文的每一空白處填上一個詞後,將完成的短文再細讀一遍,上下參照,連貫思考。把所填的答案放入短文中進行檢驗,可從上、下文內容是否協調一致、順理成章,語法結構是否正確無誤等進行綜合驗證,凡有疑問必須重新推敲考慮。

首先,完型填空的首句一般都是完整的,其目的是給答題者一個整體思路,順著這個整體思路進行第一遍的"跳讀",也就是不看選項通讀全篇。雖然文章已經被"挖"的支離破碎,仍能大概分析出它所發生的語言環境是"hospital",還是"cinema"或是"farm"。知道了這些以後,思維就會變得具體起來。接下去進行第二遍的諸題攻破,邊看邊選。這遍做起來是最費時間的,因為每選一個空,都要考慮到有關的語義搭配、固定句式、片語、時態等各個方面。比如,如果選項是動詞,那麼,考查的可能是時態,動詞過去式、過去分詞的規則、不規則變化;如果選項是介詞,考查的可能是固定搭配或片語;如果選項是連詞,則考的可能是上下文的順承轉接等等。.這就要求答題者有較深的基礎知識功底,同時,要能做到上下呼應,左右連接。在填完所有的空之後,就進入到了第三遍的糾錯過程。這一步要求把所有的選項一一對應到相應的空中,把它作為一篇完整的閱讀文章來通讀、復查。
許多學生經常會忽略或意識不到這一步的重要,其實,通過最後一遍的通讀,可以通過語感分析出選項是否與語境相吻合,是否與原文協調一致,是否符合應有的邏輯關系。這樣看來,這一遍絕對是重中之重、不可或缺的。

完型填空其實就是一個兩百多個單詞量的閱讀,既然是閱讀就離不開詞彙的積累、辨析及使用等。詞彙的辨析和使用占完型出題量的百分之六、七十左右,是最重的部分。所以,考前詞彙的准備對完型填空顯得尤為重要。

從某種意義上講,完型填空與閱讀理解之間的關系最密切。實際上,完型填空的第一關便是閱讀理解,或者說閱讀理解是完型填空測試的一部分內容,所檢測的閱讀理解能力滲透在每一小題的解題過程中。完型填空解題的首要步驟是將短文的大意理解清楚。

2. 精讀。分段分層的理解文章和的旨意。
3. 如果是做閱讀,在粗讀和精讀後,自己設計幾個問題來思考;如果是完型填空,在做題前再次瀏覽閱讀一遍。這樣更容易把握文章的脈絡和結構進行細節分析。

牢記完型填空中的固定搭配
固定搭配是專升本完型中的必考題型,它要求考生對於一些常用的英文慣用表達法進行必要的識記。此類題型靈活度較低,復習起來相對較有針對性。不過,在這里考生要避免進入一個誤區,那就是將過多的時間和精力花費在固定表達法的識記上。事實上,如果時間允許,將固定搭配一字不差地背下來固然不失為一種有效的手段。但是若時間有限,上述方法顯然不是切實可行的,因為它很有可能會由於佔用了過多的時間而打亂你整個的備考方案。這里老師需要提醒考生注意的是,對於專升本的完型我們的目標有且只有一個,那就是:得分!換而言之,就是勾對選項。記住:沒有人強迫你把慣用表達法記得毫釐不差,這是不需要,也是不必要的。你只要對一些常考的固定搭配有一個較為深刻的印象即可。比如說,in much the ____ way as,後面給出四個選項A) familiar B)similar C) same D) identical。對於此題,你只要平時對in much the same way as這樣的固定表達法有一個較深刻的印象,你就會發現C) 選項比其它選項擁有更高的辨識度,說的通俗一些就是它看上去更順眼。為什麼順眼?因為你平時經常看到它,盡管你也許不能一字不差地默寫下來。所以對於這樣的題型你無須強行記憶,當然更不必去區分各個選項之間單詞的異同。
注重完型填空中的邏輯鏈接
完型填空的解題原則是以上下文的內容為衡量標准。有不少題目在設計上非常注重干擾項在語法結構上的合理性,使四個選項在語法上均無懈可擊。還有的干擾項從局部角度講可以被認可,例如在短語或單句層面上符合習慣搭配或邏輯表達。但當這些詞置於全文大背景中便顯出破綻:要麼前後矛盾,要麼與主題不相關。由此可見,短文本身是一個篇整體,在解題中千萬不能脫離上下文去"就事論事"。相反,小圈子裡的疑團解不開時,放眼"外圍"語境,或許能得到意外的驚喜,甚至是現成的答案。
完型填空是將語法和詞彙題放在語篇中考,所以與單純的語法題和詞彙題不同。考生在備考時不但要花力氣去背記語法要點和積累詞彙,還要注意單詞在使用中的搭配習慣和用法上各自不同的特點及同義詞之間的差別等。另外,還要學會通過語境暗示推斷詞義和連詞的用法,及詞與詞、句與句、段與段之間的關系(到底是並列、選擇、轉折還是遞進、讓步、因果等)。
(1)名詞、動詞、形容詞、非關聯性副詞間的銜接
在詞彙的基本搭配中,主要的關系有兩種:動詞關系和修飾關系。動詞關系是指動詞和名詞構成主謂或動賓關系。漢語中有"龍騰虎躍"、"雞飛狗跳"、"人仰馬翻"等說法,然而如果是把裡面的名詞交換的話,那就貽笑大方了。而修飾關系則是指形容詞修飾名詞或是副詞修飾動詞等。例如說,"狐假虎威"、"豬卑狗險"、"軒鶴冠猴"等說法中如果是把修飾的對象交換的話,也是驢唇不對馬嘴了。而在英語中,這樣的搭配關系只是以另一種文字呈現出來,反倒是使得很多考生就束手無策了。
(2)用復雜成分替換簡單思路後的銜接
專升本完型的難度很大程度上就來自於其命題思路的復雜化,專升本英語的句子多以結構多樣的復雜句為主,即便是簡單句也會出現復雜的修飾成分,如介詞短語、分詞結構、不定式為主,從而使得專升本英語的難度進一步增大。而在完型中考生往往留心到詞語間的搭配或是句子間的關系,但卻容易忽略上述復雜化結構在句子中的作用以及和空格內容的聯系。因此在判斷過程中不妨留意空格周圍的介詞短語、分詞結構、不定式甚至是從句,尤其是定語從句和同位語從句更直接起到了限定的作用。
(3)並列結構的銜接
眾所周知,用連詞,如and,or可以將類似結構的內容並列在一起,而and更是要求並列的內容具有一致性。因此在空格周圍出現and的並列結構時,並列的內容往往是推論正確答案的線索。
(4)句子間的銜接
句子間的銜接實際上就是考察考生對於句子含義的理解和進而推斷句子間關系的能力。而很多考生常常分不清if only和only if,盡管它們幾乎從沒被選到過。很多考生也分不清even if和even though,其實它們沒有區別;更有考生分不清as if和even if,這就在考試中造成了很多的困擾。因此明確常見的四類關系,解決專升本完型的句子銜接,也就不在話下了。這四類關系是:附加,如furthermore, moreover, in addition等;反向,如although , whereas,even if, on the contrary等;因果,如because , so ,consequently , as a result等;時間,如while, since, before等。

第一:快速通讀全文(scanning),在你scanning的時候,尤其注意首句,因為首句一般都不挖空,通過首句往往能很快把握Topic,Keywords,除此之外,就是每段首尾句,把上述幾句話歸納一下,就知道文章大概了.另外就是要注意文章中的關聯詞,如although,but,however,unlike,這些詞是前後對比,語境轉折的重要標志,也是把握全文邏輯的重要標識.最後,就是在第一次快速瀏覽全文的時候,先把那些一看就有90%的把握的空都做了,尤其是對於那些邏輯關聯詞,或者帶有感情色彩的空,更應該在第一步解決,這是因為你第一篇通讀的時候,你對全文的行文邏輯,和作者的感情色彩(褒,貶,中肯,)的把握應該是比較準的,越往後做越迷茫,就不好了.在你還沒有掌握邏輯的時候去做題,容易犯斷章取義,以偏概全的毛病.
第二,在弄清楚全文行文脈絡之後,就可以開始做題了,做題的時候要學會應用「語境分析法,細節分析法」,也就是說,完形填空不僅僅考查語法知識,而且還對考生的邏輯思維的連續性有較高的要求.因此,當語法和語境沖突的時候,語法應酌情服從語境.完形填空每句話之間的邏輯關系都是縝密的:並列關系,遞進關系,轉折關系……前一句是後一句的條件,原因,結果,假設,補充說明,進一步解釋…………這些關系是你做好完形填空的基礎.在這些關系中,你往往能通過上一句的謂語,或者主語,找到下一個空所需的信息詞,這就是所謂的「細節分析法」.根據文章作出選擇,考慮貫穿全文的線索.完形填空所考的內容,集中在實詞,如名詞、動詞、形容詞、副詞.做題的時候,不能單純考慮這些詞的區別,一定要結合文章中具體的事件,在文章中體會這些詞的意義.即做題的時候,應該入境,去體會主人公的所做所想.

短期內提高英語完形填空水平可以通過以下方法,
第一步:「總」。速讀全文,把握大局。用2-3分鍾,以略讀方式快速瀏覽全文,主要目的是了解文章的體裁和題材,從整體上把握全文內容和結構框架,找出文章的主題、大意,作者的觀點、態度、思路,文章展開的線索,句與句,段與段之間的邏輯關系,以及文章的語言風格或特點。
第二步:「分」。逐句通讀全文,但是先不要看四個選項,做到通讀與猜測並行。另外,千萬不要拘泥與題目順序,這一步解題過程可以針對不同情況分三輪解題,通俗地講,就是好做的先做,不會的留到下一輪。
第一輪,對含義明顯的詞彙,固定搭配或習慣用法,常用句式等純語言知識問題,可以邊讀邊隨時猜測出答案,包括介詞的用法,倒裝句、虛擬語氣等固定的句型或語法。
第二輪,針對在通讀過程中未能輕易猜測出答案的題目。這類題目的答案,不僅僅取決於對文章局部的理解,而是要在對語篇理解的基礎上,利用上下文中字里行間的線索才能猜測出答案。此時,應該先看清題區的句法關系,辨別句子是簡單句、並列句還是主從復合句,並根據語法判斷詞性,然後根據學生自己的生活常識、背景知識與文章主題,猜測該詞或短語的語義范圍。
第三輪,集中突破前兩輪未能解出的題目。在前兩輪的基礎上,針對最後難關,直接對照選項,利用前兩輪已填入的選項縮小填空范圍,採用排除法,排除不恰當的選項,最後敲定答案。
