《老人與海》
The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enring works.Told in language of great simplicity and power,it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman,down on his luck,and his supreme ordeal——a relentless,agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream.Here Hemingway recasts,in strikingly contemporary style,the classic thene of courage in the face of defeat,of personal triumph won from los.Written in 1952,this hugely successfully novella confirmed his power and presence in the literary world and played a huge part in his winning the 1954 Nobel Prize for Literature. The novel is very famous in the world, so lot of people like this novel. We also studied it in our Chinese class, Hemingway's novel are always interesting I like his novel much, also in his novel we can learn a lot by his meanings. It』s really a good novel for people to read.

i read the book written by luxun .it is called zhaohuaxishi. it includes 10 short articles about the writers stories .they are based on his own experience , when i read this book ,i feel very happy to see luxuns childhood. it was diffrent from ours,so we may find it intersting and exciting. luxuns langange is very great but maybe difficult to understand . but through his words ,we can find his happiness in his heart .

《簡愛》
Jane Eyre is a first-person narrative of the title character, a small, plain-faced, intelligent and honest English orphan. On the second floor is the clothing section and there you can find different kinds of clothes.
The supermarket is open twelve hours a day : from 9:00 a. m. to 9:00 p.m. The workers in the supermarket are very friendly and they can help you find what you want.
On Saturdays and Sundays, the market is full of people.

These days , I am busy preparing my dissertation which is about web usage mining . I read some English pa-pe-rs and learnt much from them . And now , I want to say something about a pa-pe-r titled “Web Usage Mining ：Discovery and Applications of Usage Patterns from Web Data”.
This is the first English pa-pe-r I read about dissertation and gave me great help .
This pa-pe-r is a review about web usage mining. It introced web usage mining in detail . Although it is a little old for it was published in 2000 , its contents are very useful today . It is organized according to the sequence of web usage mining and the six main parts are introction which tells me what is web usage mining , the sources and abstraction of web data , the three steps of web usage mining , taxonomy and project survey , websift overview , privacy issues . The third and fourth parts are most important . It had a list of existing project about web usage mining which I saw many times in other pa-pe-rs , but this pa-pe-r is the one creating this list . Besides , it has been referred for more then twenty times . As we all know that , the higher the referred number is , the more important the pa-pe-r is , so I consider this pa-pe-r to be an important and successful one in this region.
In my opinion , the succeof this pa-pe-r es to three reasons . The first reason is the profound computer knowledge owned by the authors . Web usage mining relates to many subjects , such as artificial intelligence , ontology , semantic analysis , but the most basic knowledge is computer science . The four authors are all professors of department of computer science and engineering in university of Minnesota . For myself , I am not major in computer science and I am not very good at computers , so I feel a little difficult to understand technologies used in this region.

He is strange, he has a big barrel on his back. He never talks! They walk and walk up the mountain. They come to a building, there, Rip meets a lot of strange man. Rip and the old man had a lot of drinks in the barrel. Then Rip fall in to sleep. He sleeps for 20 years! Rip wakes up and goes home. He meets his daughter and knows that many people died in the war between America and Britain. Later, ,rip tells his strange story to his new friends in his new town——The United States of America.
Comment:
After reading, I think that Rip Van Winkle is a very interesting person. He likes talking with other people. He is good at communicate. So he has finding that it’s fine to stay with others. We must learn this from Rip. Rip also has some bad manners. He doesn’t like working. We mustn’t do as Rip does.

What a great story it is! How exciting the trip under the sea was it! I also want to go with captain Nemo. But I’m afraid that I’m not so lucky as Aronnax. The life under the sea must be nice. There are many coral, water plants, fish, mineral procts in stead of worried and strife. I like that kind of world!

Despite I』ve not in my childhood yet, I still prefer reading fairy-tale stories. The tales, which accompany with me in my old days, often make me think of some precious experience and sensation which only belong to children. This summer I』ve review this kind of tale, which was published in 1940. It』s the world-famous fairy-tale by the French author, Antoine de St-Exupery, The Little Prince.
As many other fairy-tales, the outline of The Little Prince is not very complex. 「I」, the narrator of the story, is a pilot whose plane has something wrong and lands in the Sahara. In this occasion, the pilot makes the acquaintance of the little prince, a little boy from another planet, the Asteroid B612. The little prince has escaped from his tiny planet, because he has some quarrel with a rose, which grows on his planet. In that case he left his own planet and took an exploration at some neighbor asteroids.

——On Sister Carrie
Carrie was such an ordinary rural girl at the beginning of the story. Sitting on the seat of a bus, she couldn』t help feeling exciting at the sight of the metropolis』 spectacle. She was impressed deeply by large crowd on the avenue, the spacious square or tall buildings.
Far more different from other heroines, Carrie was not a plain pure angel like Snow-white, nor was she brave enough to be a heroine of revolutionist or even a reformer, nor was she so clever as to be a successful career woman who start from scratch.
What attracted her most, after her entering this huge metropolis was the incredible fineries, fashion shoes, smart handbags displaying in the shop windows, the jewellerys shining brightly behind the glass. She dreamed that one day, she could wear all of these, jogging gracefully into the most luxurious hotel with focused sights of admiration.
And this was not merely a dream. Because she had large eyes which can earn others』 sympathy, even love. She had wonderful figure which can win others』 hearts. However, anything she got, anywhere she reached, had not come from her ambition. Things happened, and then she accepted. That』s what she had just done — just to accept willingly from the bottom of her heart. She was not at all an evil woman who would give anything for the fortune or fame. However, she would give uo something for a better life when her instinct defeated her intellect.
That was Carrie, a girl had her own desire, a human being just like many others in the realistic world.
There』s one sentence written in chapter VIII:」 When this jangle of free-will instinct shall have been adjusted, when perfect understanding has given the former the power to replace the latter entirely, man will no longer vary.」 However, how many people can go that further.
And I want to quote another sentence to wind up my essay:
「In Carrie — as in how many of our wordings do they not? — instinct and reason, desire and understanding, were at war for the mastery.」

The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enring works and may very well become one of the true classics of this generation.It played a GREat part in his winning the Pulizer Prize in 1953 and the 1954 Novel Prize for Literature and confirmed his power and presence in the literary world. Hemingway is also one of my favorite writers. Besides The Old Man And the Sea, I have read some of his other works, such as The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms and The Snow of Kilimanijaro. But The Old Man and the Sea is the one that left the deepest impression on me.
I first read this book when I was in my fifteens. And now I remember it just as well as if I had read it yesterday.

I thought it's so long that it made me impatient and bored. By now, I haven't read the whole story in English or its Chinese version, either. I owe it to my prejudice.
In fact, I didn't understand the story at that time. I didn't know why it called Pride and Prejudice. Of course someone was pride, but I didn't find where' s the prejudice. I thought it's normal, the way people treated each other in that. I considered prejudice would be very disgusting. But to the movie everthing was OK in my minds, except its length. Now, I think I have understood more about it. I'm a prejudiced person so I can't find where's wrong. I merely like to do the things I like. Everytime I meet somebody or something,my thinking about he or it all depends on my foregone experience and my mood of the time.
