Love seems to be the perpetual theme all over the world. But actually what is love? For most girls in 20s, love may mean everything to them. They seek for love bravely no matter what difficulties they may face. In their eyes, love is pure or even holy. However, those are just an ideal situation, n real life; people tend to find a balance between love and property.

Pride and prejudice is Austin』s great work. Through the discussion of the different marriages and love, the writer demonstrates her concept about love and marriage: love and marriage is closely associated with property and society, however, love and marriage can not only be decided by the property and social status. An ideal marriage should be based on mutual affection, respect and the same interest. She rejects the marriage based only on wealth.

Different people have different ideas upon marriage. By the description and discussion of the four marriages in the novel, we can see that Austen fully expresses her views on love and marriage. Only by appreciating the marriage founded on the basis of mutual understanding and true love, but also by satirizing the marriage founded on the basis of origin and desire.

The marriage based on social position and money can』t bring happiness in life. Aimless marriage and love are unpractical.

Everything goes wrong for poor couples. Marriage based on wealth is not a fault. At least, it can offer us a better condition of life. Property is not everything in the life but without it, we can do nothing. This is called reality. But if you only married for wealth, you sell your liberty. The rest of your life might be miserable, and your marriage will filled with endless bitterness.

I have never been to Troy, but David Maule made me feel as if I were standing on the high wall of Troy, watching the fierce war. Thanks to this British author, who adapted the famous Homer』s poem into a lively story, I found it easier to understand this story. Though the story happened over 3000 years ago in a remote place, I was deeply fascinated by it.

The mysterious plot is one of the reasons why I loved The Story of Troy so much, yet I am more interested in the human heroes of the war.

Hector was the eldest son of king of Troy, Priam. He was not only a real hero of Trojan, but was regarded the highest moral hero in Greek classic by later historians. The war started because of the mischief of his brother, Paris, whom he didn』t appreciate. However, since Hector was the commander of the Trojan army, he was obliged to fight with all force. It was really a tragedy that such a valiant man died in the el with another great warrior, Achilles.

It is natural to see death in a war. As a famous Chinese parable says, 「A life can be as slight as a piece of feather, or as weighty as Mount Tai.」 Sometimes, one』s glory walks hand in hand with one』s doom. Achilles was such a typical person. His personal charm made The Story of Troy more attractive. He was so crucial because his every appearance in a war encouraged his fellow soldiers and terrified the enemies. Actually, Achilles was half-god who was almost invincible in people』s mind. That』s why his name was memorized long after his death.

Besides the two great men, the wisdom of Odysseus also proved him to be a great hero. He didn』t want to attend the war because he was happily married and had a lovely son. However, since his country was allied to Mycenae, he had to take the command given by the king of Mycenae.

Oliver Lester, a little boy, grew up in a poor-house, and oliver twist, an orphan, read notes. At the age of nine, he was apprenticed to a coffin shop, and hunger and humiliation escaped him.On the street, he was found by the pickpocket, and he pulled the thief closer.Later, he was taken in by the kind Mr. Brown luo, but unfortunately he was robbed by the pickpockets and was forced to take part in the robbery. But the relief was that oliver had suffered, but he was reunited with his family, and the bad people were punished.

This is the main content of oliver twist. The great writer dickens used this work to show us the light and ugliness, justice and evil of the 19th century British society. At the same time, it tells people a truth: justice will prevail over evil!

At the beginning, I felt a kind of "cold humor" in the article, and in many cases, the article used a humorous way to satirize the darkness of society. In addition to this way, every character in the novel, dickens does not describe them in the most distinctive language. The good, brave, strong oliver, the kind and beautiful maiden, the amiable old gentleman, the malicious thief, the fierce bandit, the description of each character is vivid.

The author also arranges coincidences. For example, oliver went to the streets with the thief for the first time. The stolen object happened to be the friend of his savior and his deceased father. When he was forced to steal, the thief was exactly his aunt. These things that are unlikely to happen in the real world are cleverly and reasonably ed into the articles to make the plot twists and turns vividly.

After reading this novel, my heart only has two words: moved.Although oliver's childhood was difficult and difficult, he was also lucky because so many good people were helping him. Many of the kind-hearted people in this article did not abandon oliver to the den of thieves, but believed him and helped him from the beginning to the end.

Oliver entered the den several times and was forced to take part in thefts and robberies, but his heart had been good, and he had not been infected by that bad climate.I thought that oliver's self-rejection and "silt and undying" had to do with the help of good samaritans.Their sincere care and care made oliver feel the warmth and love of the world, which led him to fight bravely and resolutely against evil.

Throughout the whole novel, the power of love, the warmth of the world, the message that justice will triumph over evil.It tells people to distinguish between good and evil, to tell people to understand love, to love others, to tell people that there is love, justice and kindness, and to read the book of "oliver twist".

I think I don't have to praise the book earlier, I just want to say that it has taught me a lot of things.

霧都孤兒英語讀書筆記 篇2

How can such a little boy who had already suffered oppressive affliction remain pure in body and mind? The reason is the nature of goodness. I think it is the most important information implied in the novel by Dickens-he believed that goodness could conquer every difficulty. Although I don』t think goodness is omnipotent, yet I do believe that those who are kind-hearted live more happily than those who are evil-minded.

For me, the nature of goodness is one of the most necessary character for a person. Goodness is to humans what water is to fish. He who is without goodness is an utterly worthless person. On the contrary, as the famous saying goes, The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose』, he who is with goodness undoubtedly is a happy and useful person. People receiving his help are grateful to him and he also gets gratified from what he has done, and thus he can do good to both the people he has helped and himself.

To my disappointment, nowadays some people seem to doubt the existence of the goodness in humanity. They look down on people』s honesty and kindness, thinking it foolish of people to be warm-hearted. As a result, they show no sympathy to those who are in trouble and seldom offer to help others. On the other hand, they attach importance to money and benefit. In their opinion, money is the only real object while emotions and morality are nihility. If they cannot get profit from showing their 『kindness』, they draw back when others are faced with trouble and even hit a man when he is down. They are one of the sorts that I really detest.

Francis Bacon said in his essay, 『Goodness, of all virtues and dignities of the mind, is the greatest, being the character of the Deity, and without it, man is a busy, mischievous, wretched thing, no better than a kind of vermin.』

To Regain the Nature of Goodness -- Review of 『Oliver Twist』 Oliver Twist one of the most famous works of Charles Dickens』 is a novel reflecting the tragic fact of the life in Britain in 18th century.

The author who himself was born in a poor family wrote this novel in his twenties with a view to reveal the ugly masks of those cruel criminals and to expose the horror and violence hidden underneath the narrow and dirty streets in London. The hero of this novel was Oliver Twist an orphan who was thrown into a world full of poverty and crime. He suffered enormous pain such as hunger thirst beating and abuse. While reading the tragic experiences of the little Oliver I was shocked by his sufferings. I felt for the poor boy but at the same time I detested the evil Fagin and the brutal Bill. To my relief as was written in all the best stories the goodness eventually conquered devil and Oliver lived a happy life in the end. One of the plots that attracted me most is that after the theft little Oliver was allowed to recover in the kind care of Mrs. Maylie and Rose and began a new life. He went for walks with them or Rose read to him and he worked hard at his lessons. He felt as if he had left behind forever the world of crime and hardship and poverty.

How can such a little boy who had already suffered oppressive affliction remain pure in body and mind? The reason is the nature of goodness. I think it is the most important information implied in the novel by Dickens-he believed that goodness could conquer every difficulty. Although I don』t think goodness is omnipotent yet I do believe that those who are kind-hearted live more happily than those who are evil-minded. 霧都孤兒英語讀書筆記 篇4

Oliver Twist is written by Charles Dickens.

Charles Dickens is one of the greatest writers in the England. He was born in a poor family, but later he became famous and rich. The famous novel --A Tale of Two Cities is written by him, too.

This novel shows us the cruelty and crime of London. Oliver Twist, the hero, is a poor orphan. He lived in a life filled with taunts. Nobody loved him. With visions of his future, he decided to go to London. He thought a new life was coming, but he was wrong, a group of thieves were waiting for him.

The author created a group of bad men.

Fagin, an old man, with a horribly ugly face and red hair, was the head of those thieves. He tried to make Oliver be a criminal.

Bill Sikes was a cruel and evil man in the group. He had a bad temper.

Monks, Oliver』s brother, did bad things to hurt Oliver. He wanted to get the legacies left by his father alone. He paid Fagin to trap Oliver into a life of crime. In fact, they were all afraid of being put into prison and being hanged. They can』t live happily.

Nancy, a poor girl, loved a bad man. She had to help Bill Sikes perpetrate, because she loved him. She had to be loyal to the criminal group, because she loved him. Actually, she was kind. She helped Oliver at the risk of her life. If she hadn』t fell in love with Sikes, she would have a happy ending.

The author showed these ugly things to us, he described an ugly world. But there are more kind people in the novel.

Mr. Brownlow, an old friend of Oliver』s father, took good care of Oliver.

Mrs. Maylie, Harry Maylie』s mother, saved Oliver of his life.

Miss Rose is the aunt of Oliver, in fact.

They all protect Oliver from hurt.

Oliver was unlucky to meet so many evil people, but he was luckier to get help from so many kind people.

In the end of the novel, all the evil people were punished. Oliver got what he should get. Rose married Harry Maylie and they lived happily. All the kind people have a happy ending.

Righteousness can always beat evil. I think this is what the author wants to tell. Although there are many ugly things in the world, we must believe that righteousness can always beat evil.

We must store kindness even though we are in ugly situation. One is poor if he doesn』t have kindness. One is rich if he has kindness. So please store your kindness in your mind.

What』s more, the novel also tells us to be brave. Oliver was brave enough to overcome all the problems he had met. No matter how difficult the problem is, we can』t give up, we must try our best to solve it.

From Oliver Twist , I have learnt a lot .It』s really a good novel.

霧都孤兒英語讀書筆記 篇5

Oliver Twist is a very famous novel written by Dickens, a famous British writer.

Oliver, an orphan, grew up in a poorhouse and has been discriminated against. He escaped to London because he could not bear to be abused. He went into a den of thieves by mistake and was scolded and beaten. I dont know how much he suffered in the process of growing up. Although growing up in such an environment, he has a kind heart. No matter how much he suffers, his determination to do bad things is the biggest. He is blessed and will never forget to thank his benefactor. But the people in the bandit group still did not let him go, and his half brother also wanted to kill him. Olivers fate is tragic, but he was helped by good people to find out his life experience and obtain the heritage. Finally, his fate has been changed and he is expected to become a useful person to the society.

We should also learn from the kind-hearted Brownlow, who helped Oliver with his helping hand. Because of his kindness, Oliver Twist was saved. He made the world lose a bad man and a good man, and kept Oliver away from the dirty world.

In a word, the whole novel is full of twists and turns, which makes people sigh for Oliver Twists life experience, angry for the mean man, moved by the kind Brownlow, and happy for Olivers rebirth. Since its publication more than 100 years ago, Oliver Twist has become a classic work loved by readers all over the world, and I am no exception. Because of this novel, I also began to know Dickens. His novel mainly reflects the bottom life of the British society, which has just passed the poverty relief law.

Jane Eyre is a first-person narrative of the title character, a small, plain-faced, intelligent and honest English orphan. The novel goes through five distinct stages: Jane's childhood at Gateshead, where she is abused by her aunt and cousins; her ecation at Lowood School, where she acquires friends and role models but also suffers privations; her time as the governess of Thornfield Manor, where she falls in love with her Byronic employer, Edward Rochester; her time with the Rivers family at Marsh's End (or Moor House) and Morton, where her cold clergyman-cousin St John Rivers proposes to her; and her reunion with and marriage to her beloved Rochester at his house of Ferndean. I have read a book the other day called The Monkeys Paw which is written by W.W.Jacobs.The story began on a cold and dark night.Old Mr White got a magic monkey paw from his friend Morris.Morris who told him that the monkey paw could give three wishes to three people, but it couldnt bring them happiness. However,Old Mr White still used the paw to make wishes without listening to Morriss discourage. Finally, he got thirty thousand pounds but his son died.At the end of the story,Mrs White almost became crazy. The whole family fell into sadness and fear.

This story is gripping and also a little scary. It is tragic and sobering. The plot is both unexpected and reasonable.Although Old Mr Whites friend had warned him,but he didnt listen. At last it became a tragedy. What caused all this? Its obvious that the Mr Whites greed. He wanted to get the money with no pay,but that is impossible in this world.Im afraid hell live out the rest of his life in regret. The three men who used the monkeys paw all paid an irreparable price for their greed.

This short novel tells us a lesson that we cant daydream.Waiting for money and success comes with no pay is stupid and not realistic. We should work and study harder.Chase the treasure on your own without regret or sadness.
