那時的學校，也只不過是一所破破爛爛的房子。父親學會了老師教的內容，就借同學的一些書看了起來。中午到了，父親回到家，又得去給菜地澆水，給羊割草。他忙完後，又到房間捧起書來看，然後再去上學。下午放學，父親常常連晚飯也顧不上吃，就做起作業來。天黑了，父親就在煤油燈來學習，常常很晚才睡覺。但是，不管他多晚睡覺，第二天只要公雞一聲啼，父親總能按時起床。
