The Misfit is one of the most alarming serial killers we've ever met, all the more so for his politeness, and the story』s moral is so striking and terrifying that — whether you subscribe to the religious undertones or not — a reader is likely to finish and begin to reexamine their entire existence. Or at least we did, the first time we read it.

Kafka called this one his「dirty story,」and thought it imperfect, but it's one of our favorites of his (though we also recommend 「The Hunger Artist」and「A Country Doctor」). It's so obviously a story about writing, in some ultimate way — a machine punishes its victims by writing on them over and over until their bodies give out — but its as if, while the body is the source of every problem in the tale, every weakness, it is also the only place where true knowledge can be translated.

An old Jewish couple goes to visit their son in the mental hospital, only to be turned away because he has attempted to kill himself. And that's it, really. They go home and look though a photo album, eat some jam. The phonerings. But the whole thing is, perhaps, both a comment on the nature of insanity and the nature of the short story itself, with all its rules and strangeness and banality. And all its symbols, of course.

But like most of Chekhov's stories, there's no clear moral, there's no obvious takeaway. Some men sit around and discuss their thoughts, and we listen, mulling over the subtleties for ourselves.

But it's also concerned with placelessness, with family, with poverty, and like all of Saunders's stories, has a good, thumping heart under all that darkness and fun-poking.

Most of the citizens eventually accept this, but some do not, and silently leave the city, vanishing into the world around. Strange but pointed, Le Guin is a master of her genre.

我覺得這本書最大的好處，就是單詞量小，但是，同時可以讓你學到裡面的語法，單詞什麼的，其實你可以一邊讀書，一邊查字典的，畢竟你也說過了，你是想學英語，那就表示你一點英語基礎也沒有的吧？所以這本書會對你有很大的幫助的。
很多人剛開始學習英語的時候，就會好高騖遠，一開始就想閱讀一些高難度的書本，但是他們本身的單詞量啊，語法啊什麼的，又都沒有達到一定的要求，這就會導致他們根本就學不會英語，過一段時間之後，也就會自己放棄了。
希望你不要成為那樣的人，不要半途而廢。
我覺得這本書真的特別的適合初學者，裡面的東西比較容易懂，而且涉及到的國家背景也比較少，會很好的理解書中的故事什麼的，再一個，就是你能通過讀這本書，讓自己的英語單詞量擴大，裡面都是一些基礎性的單詞，你在讀書的時候，要准備一本字典，遇見不會的單詞就去查一下，很有用，然後把不會的單詞記錄下來，每天看一看，相信不久之後，你就會學到東西的。
其實我感覺，你是初學者，應該找一本語法書先看一看，但是既然你想看本小說，那我想這個書可能對你會有幫助哦！

傑克。倫敦的《野性的呼喚》比較簡單。

還有《牛虻》要更難一點點兒。六級水平吧。

亨利·詹姆斯（Henry James，1843年4月15日－1916年2月28日），英籍美裔小說家、文學批評家、劇作家和散文家。代表作有長篇小說《一個美國人》《一位女士的畫像》《鴿翼》《使節》《金碗》等。1843年4月16日，生於紐約市。幼年主要是在紐約州的奧本尼和紐約市長大的。1860—1862年期間，住在羅得島的紐波特。後到波士頓，寫文學評論，游記和短篇小說。1875年，他決定去歐洲定居。最初他住在巴黎，並結識了屠格涅夫，福樓拜、莫泊桑和左拉。次年，移居英國。1876年，出版第一部長篇小說《羅德里克·赫德森》。在他的早期創作階段，寫了《一個美國人》、《貴婦人的畫像》、《黛西·密勒》、《華盛頓廣場》以及《艾斯朋遺稿》，並周遊了美國、法國和義大利。1889年開始，試圖躋身戲劇創作，但沒有成功，只上演了他寫的兩個劇本《一個美國人》和《未成熟的少年時代》。19世紀90年代，出版了《悲慘的詩人》《梅西所知道的》《波音頓的珍藏晶》《螺絲在擰緊》等。1904年—1905年，對美國作了一次訪問，訪問後寫了《美國所見》。第一次世界大戰期間，成為英國公民，並被授予最高文職勛章。1916年2月28日去世。
